    a question, do you think the principal really meant what he said?

    I was not there but I would very humbly suggest that not everything is about race, Then again I was not there.

      to know it was race.  Context is everything.  I've been in those situations, too, where perfectly respectable white people say one thing but mean another, and there's no missing the point.

        sublte or subconcious racism, my grandmother was like that. I'll never forget her explaining why they had to move in the 60s (well 'those people' came and property values went down)

        My only point was that I do think sometimes people see what they expect. That's not to say racism hasn't happened or is not still happening. Also I'm from a different generation, I willingly concede that the context the diarist grew up in is far and away different from mine.
