    I'm a bit younger than you, but its nearly the same story.

    Great initial interview with HR, enthusiastic interview with the middle-manager, good conversation with the "big boss", then the news they've gone with someone else.

    Blerg.

      try to send me over there. The guy from the temp service didn't believe me, so I said "go ahead and see for yourself". I never heard back from him. On top of that they have been looking for people for over a year. The younger people don't have the skills and they don't want to hire the people "who can build that". Idiots.

        Don't beat yourself up - that job does not really exist.  It's not clear why employers do that except that they bring in experienced people and interview them to pick their brains but don't hire them. it's like free consulting.

        But don't just assume that it's because you personally are unemployable.
