    If you're committed to the idea of Newt being president, you're dismayed he takes that important time off; if you're committed to Newt personally, you're only concerned that Newt is doing what he wants.

    Yep.  Makes sense.

      over the years and then finally got to be part of the great man's campaign... and then of course finally got confronted by the reality of what he is... or at least enough of it to be disillusioned... the more intelligent of them... washing their hands entirely... the others crestfallen and looking for excuses to blame others in the campaign for somehow letting them all down and the great Newt especially... and still striving to explain away at least some of the Gingrich hokum.

      disillusioned believers: they seem to fall into either of two categories.... either woken up and coming to their senses... or coming to the wrong conclusions about what went wrong, and then double down in a slightly different direction going deeper into their delusions.
