  •  Yeah, Honey Boo Boo and what not. (6+ / 0-)

Silly of me to care, really.

I hope this series tanks.  My anger is deep at its incredible stupidity.

Nothing worth noting at the moment.

show, but then I looked it up and realized I had heard some dialogue from the first episode on the radio or someplace.

You're right.  That is some of the stupidest tripe I have ever heard.  I like fiction just like the next person, but if you don't make it at least remotely plausible in real world terms, then it's just silly.  What I heard was a submarine commander arguing with an order he received from somebody he couldn't identify, telling him to bomb Pakistan?  I think the Navy has figured out some codes to facilitate verification of an order to freaking nuke a country for Chrissakes!

Reminds me of a 1971-72 series starring David Janssen, called "O'Hara, U.S. Treasury."  At the time, I worked for U.S. Customs, so I immediately knew how ridiculous it was.  After the first episode, I was embarrassed to admit I worked for the Treasury Department.

O'Hara didn't just work for the Treasury Department.  He worked for every single agency IN the Treasury Department.  One week he was a Customs agent.  The next he worked for the IRS, then the Secret Service, U.S. Mint, etc.  Once, he wound up in the cockpit of I kid you not, a jet fighter.  I don't remember what agency he was with that week, but Treasury agents did not fly F4 Phantoms.

I think it gets under your skin a little more when you're involved with the subject in the real world, and the show makes people like you look like complete idiots.

Not that there weren't some REAL idiots...

of idiots in the Navy, but none can hold a candle to the morons depicted in this TV show.

And you're very right.  When you understand a subject, it's hard to see it depicted in the most craven and idiotic light.

Don't get me wrong.  I love escapist TV.  I liked Lost.

But, then again, I didn't have deep experience with mysteriously disappearing aircraft, crashing on multidimensional islands.

Nothing worth noting at the moment.
