    I don't dispute it. At some point, though, as an aside, one does have to realize that there's an ongoing dynamic, and then there are events that call for a different reaction, because otherwise the dynamic shifts to where you don't like it.

    We're obviously not victims, but a killing of an ambassador is an act that is recognized as more than just a killing, horrible as it is.

    Understanding a dynamic, as you put it, is valuable; it is clearly stupid to underestimate an opponent or an enemy, and it is  clearly valuable to understand why they act the way they do. But at some point you also have to make it clear that a line is drawn.

    Also, it's interesting; we do not know either what contributed to the murder (contributed, rather than being used as a supposed excuse) -- and maybe we'll never know; nor what Stevens understood.

    I'd like to also know more about what part of history I misunderstood here.
