  •  YES because it is like a car wreck on live TV (11+ / 0-)

they might have played the horse race BS pre this

BUT the possible insanity of a potential POTUS is right up there with sex scandals etc

the press will eat this up and hound them both with questions

    •   A quibble (8+ / 0-)

Mental illness does not automatically equate to insanity.  But, it does have an effect on one's life, and sometimes significantly interferes with good decision-making.  And therein lies the rub.

      •  True, and she did not even say (8+ / 0-)

mental health.  "Mental well-being" connotes something more mundane, like an inability to handle stress.  Lots of perfectly sane people are not good with handling stress.  But none of those people should be President.

        •  Very good point (3+ / 0-)

I agree... and I really don't think Obama should touch this at all.  I also hope Ed Shultz is fair about this comment, because frankly I still think many people are going interpret this comment as "duh! of course the wife is going to be concerned about his mental well-being!"

I know I would be very concerned for my husband's mental well-being and let me tell you that I would trust my husband to be a better president than Romney (just from a functional point of view).

Obama makes it look easy.  He is a master at that.  But we all know that Michelle is his ROCK.  Ann is Mitt's rock -- for better or worse.

Although, if you put all the comments the family has made together, it does make it sound like those who know him best are quite wary of him being able to handle being president.  They are letting his EGO trump their own concerns... not a good sign, either.  The family dynamics are probably "Dad is in charge" if I had to guess.

          •  It goes further than "Dad is in charge." (3+ / 0-)

It's "We need to not bother Dad."

Which meshes nicely with Lady Ann's expressed concern, as well as with Smoh's comment above about why campaigning seems to exhaust Mitt so much more than fundraising does:

He can ask for money in his sleep, but rubbing elbows with the unwashed masses just about kills him.

    •  Please -- can we not use the terms (0+ / 0-)

"insanity" or "mental illness" in discussing this? It will blow up in our faces if we try to carry this beyond what was actually said.
