  •  It seemed to be a nice palliative for liberals (7+ / 0-)

It allowed people to imagine an alternative reality once a week (kind of a liberal version of the modern reactionary experience of escaping to an alternative reality all the time, via Fox News).

The juxtaposition of the story lines in that show with the reality of the Monica-gate junta (until 2000) and then of the Bush Administration slowly destroying our country with the help of Republican Congressional majorities and utterly useless Democratic sell-outs like Tom Daschle made the show unwatchable for me - I tried to watch at least 5 times (stopping on it while flipping through channels), but never made it through an entire episode.

It rubbed me the wrong way in a similar vein to how the Bourne movies rub me the wrong way - those movies suggest a reality where people who operate outside the law fear justice and ultimately get their just deserts. In reality, they don't. In reality, no one in the justice department or Congress really seems to care about all the obscene outrages.

In any case, I would suggest that if you want Sorkin, rewatch A Few Good Men...

    •  Just speaking for myself, Minerva, I did not see (6+ / 0-)

it as a description of how things are, so much as a suggestion of how things could be. Good people working hard to make ours a better world, more just, more fair, more balanced. I never became complacent because of what I saw in the series. Rather, I became far more motivated to play a role in helping shape the world I want. The world I think many Democrats want.

Thank you for sharing your perspective so clearly and articulately. I appreciate it.
