  •  the new technology has ruined things (0+ / 0-)

it has also made things easier for folks with real talent. i have some friends who still bowl seriously. the new equipment makes mediocre house players feel good, but they still lack fundamentals in many cases and would get owned on the tour. what a fun counter factual--dick weber, anthony, and ballard up against some of the new guys and up and comers. i think the previous generations--including walter ray, ozio, and voss, would own the hot shots of today-especially all the two handed no thumb bowlers.

blue hammer. what memories. certainly a shoe-in for list of the greatest balls of all time next to the black udot, blue and black zones, the danger zone, and the purple resin rhino...the latter just changed the game.

what balls would you vote for?

Is the Blue nitro, dull sanded and drilled to run long and snap... I have the purple nitro, polished as my short oil ball... My fave prior to the blue nitro was a cobalt rhino...all fingertip drilled with a thumb insert. I'm left handed and styled my game after Parker Bohn unless there is a reverse block oil pattern; then I would shoot the purple nitro playing a deep inside line... Kept a 15lb Columbia white dot for spares that required something straight and when the lanes were bone dry... But I love swinging it out to the edge and letting it come screaming back to the pocket; if I was the only lefty on those lanes I could count on getting through 2+ games without the shot breaking down...

Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.

      •  parker bohn had such great mechanics (0+ / 0-)

he was/is a joy to watch. a timeless game. i am a righty and my coached helped to style my tweener style after ozio's...with 1/100th the talent. i also read the book 300 plus. between the coach, his tweeking, and that book my game improved twenty pins over a summer.

back in the day my two faves were a blue zone and the storm thunder road. now i am dating myself.

damn lefties, i hate you all ;) do follow the action bowling link in the post you will have lots of smiles from hearing/reading those stories.

    •  Andy Varipapa and Dick Weber (0+ / 0-)

I'd take them against any pair, any era...
