  •  They never last long enough. Blink twice and ya (5+ / 0-)

    miss em altogether.

Your fall colors are incredible. I have always thought Missouri in the fall would be hard to beat for color but I'm not so sure now. Ours vary in intensity from year to year, I guess your's do too? Is this an extra good year up there or are those colors typical? I'm not sure if ours have ever been that vibrant, definitely no better.

    •  I think the colors run about the same each year (4+ / 0-)

but, if it storms or stays cloudy it changes the intensity. We had perfect sunlight and clear skys this year. Hey, I got lucky.

      •  I think I heard somewhere that it also has (4+ / 0-)

something to do with what stage the process is at when the first frosts come too. Something about setting the sugar content or something. But don't know if there's anything to that or not. I have seen a  lot of variation in ours over the  years though. This year looks to be about average I think. We haven't yet had a hard frost , one very light one, but that's all. They are talking about one this weekend though. I always look forward to the first good frost to knock back the chiggers a bit. I can handle mosquitoes and even ticks, but chiggers just drive me nuts from about August till frost time most years. But actually this year hasn't been as bad as most. That may be due the drought this summer. Don't know.
