I think a well-done zinger is his only hope.

He DOES have to get Obama to make an unforced error because right now, unless that happens, he's never going to gain on him.

Since we all know he isn't going to give a detailed, sensical presentation of his policies, the only tactical path left is to try and zing and goad.

We know that if Obama has a weakness, it is that sometimes he comes off as aloof or condescending in this environment, and  he won't take kindly to a guy like Romney, who he rightfully disdains, coming hard at him.

It's that disdain he will have to work hard to conceal, and he will have to avoid looking like he is spending the entire night on the defensive.

So, zing and goad? If done correctly, and no guarantee of that, it would be the first Romney tactical decision I actually understand in this race.

...he has to stand right next to Obama and deliver those zingers. He is used to belittling lesser men and he probably believes his own BS about who Obama is. But he will be trying to zing the man who handed Donald Trump his ass on a tray and in his face. Obama was uncomfortable taking down Hillary and McCain like that because he is basically a gentleman and he doesn't seem to like go after people he basically respects. But he won't have any reservations about swatting Romney back, and it won't be in anger.

Only an idiot would let it be known that they would attack their opponent with one liners. More Romneyshambles.

      •  well THAT was pure idiocy (0+ / 0-)

        here's our plan level idiocy.

Combined with the whole, we are going to go after Obama on foreign policy issues at the domestic debate thing they've been throwing out there the last couple of days, they don't seem to understand that a surprise tactic doesn't work as well if you literally tell everyone you are going to do it beforehand.
