  •  They aren't "sliming" Carter, they're channeling (0+ / 0-)

Reagan, who beat the pants off Carter by (1) showing people that he wasn't a scary right wing nut and (2) stunning the inept Carter with his "There you go again" zinger.

Look for Romney to emulate this almost to the letter. His biggest problem is people don't like him. He's going to try to fix that in the debates. If he manages it, he will be leap-frogging in the polls.

Well, I guess that huge bounce that Mitt got from the the Convention....

and the fact he has this magical power to grow a personality and think on his feet...has been banged into him as he over prepares for a debate....

and while his assholic staff has been raising expectations....

while the Dems have played it smart for a change....

      and because

the world has changed since 1980...

      well...

I suppose you could be right...

and I guess it is totally possible that aliens could land and monkeys could fly out of Ryans butt.

      But

the debates haven't been much of a factor since Reagan revealed how senile he was in 1984....

      •  Oh, yeah (0+ / 0-)

and I guess Bernard Shaw's thing about Kitty Dukakis's rape and murder was a huge deal...as well...

      •  Free the monkeys!!! (1+ / 0-)

I demand that Ryan open his butt and let out the monkeys.

Maybe then he can start behaving like a normal human being.

      •  Debates didn't hurt Dukakis in '88? Or Bush in '92 (0+ / 0-)

I guess you weren't watching. The world may have changed, but the voters haven't--they are still idiots.

Debates are only a big deal when they're a big deal. Then, they're a pretty big deal. As for Romney, he did very well in the Republican debates. Better than anyone else, anyway, except maybe Gingrich, who scored by railing against "the media."

Everyone thinks Romney's a detestable turd. If he can walk that impression back any, he'll have helped himself a lot. Reagan fooled everybody in '80. If that senile numbnuts can fool people, Romney can, too.

          we'll see

Mitt will magically grow a personality and get the base to vote for him

and the undecided, low information voters will watch the debates,

unless 'Honey Boo Boo" is on.

When you are fighting over less than a million people in battleground states, I wouldn't bet the farm on debates.

I would be putting my money on the ground game.
