Ah, yes, the hallmark of the "thinking person."

The real enemy of the good is not the perfect, but the mediocre.

    •  "Reasonable" and "agreeable" are not synonyms (5+ / 0-)

You can disagree with a line of thought while acknowledging that it is reasonable. And you can disagree with Brown's veto yet recognize that maybe, just maybe, it wasn't done out of villainy or spite.

Based solely on the comment thread that I'm replying to, it seems to me that you, OCL, are looking a little too hard into David's words for something to take offense at. If you have arguments against Brown's stated rationale for the veto, by all means tell us what they are.

Let us all have the strength to see the humanity in our enemies, and the courage to let them see the humanity in ourselves.

More like dismissive contempt for workers.

          •  You're right. I can't pretend to know his (0+ / 0-)

motivation beyond what he expressed in the quoted statement. Codairem's reply below about "lack of empathy and compassion" might fail the same test, but at some point we have to judge public servants by their actions and infer their motivations.

how would you judge this action?

              HRC:

"We're grateful to Governor Brown for standing with California's children. LGBT youth will now be protected from a practice that has not only been debunked as junk science, but has been proven to have drastically negative effects on their well-being. We commend Governor Brown for putting children first, and call on all states to take California’s lead on this issue. We will continue our fight against this kind of child abuse, which has been deemed harmful to children by all major mental health, medical, and child welfare organizations."
If Governor Brown says he will work with the legislature to improve the domestics bill, which is the topic of this diary, so that he can sign it, what convinces you he won't? or maybe you aren't actually a California resident.

which, come to thing of it, probably doesn't qualify you as his analyst

but lack of empathy and compassion -- yeah, I can easily see that.
