    have been damaged and/or looted over the last year or so. Anecdotal and video evidence indicate that both anti-Assad forces and pro-Assad forces are involved in the looting, some/much of which seems to be for the purpose of selling objects to get the funds to purchase weaponry.       Yes, thoroughly depressing. Looted art and artifacts can sometimes be recovered, but looted and damaged sites can destroy context and provenience forever, as you know.
