It's a fact that our consulate was unprepared in such a dangerous corner of the world.

It's not Baghdad. Not every Consulate, or even Embassy, gets a Green Zone. And the fact is, the US is generally very well appreciated in Benghazi. More so, Chris Stevens.

Why wasn't there a safe house?
There was a safe house. It too was attacked.
Why was the Ambassador even there given his own concerns.
He was doing the job he loved. I'm not sure what "concerns" you are referring to. If you know of any specific "concerns" that Stevens had about being at the consulate, on that day, please do share.
How could the first report from the White House not even say there was a possibility that it was terrorists?
A couple of days ago, a car bomb detonated in central Damascus. Within a couple of hours, at least two organisations had taken credit. Sound familiar? Why do you suppose this happens? The administration was loath to doff its cap to some shadowy bunch of militants when the evidence was still being collected.
And why can't the FBI get to the site to investigate?
I admit that looks bad, like the government wants to keep them away. But the fact is, Libya is a powder keg right now with many different armed factions, and many different players able and willing to play one off the other. It wouldn't surprise me at all that there are credible threats coming from Benghazi that US investigators had better stay away. Given that it seems likely now that whomever was responsible for the attacks had done their homework (and how easy is it going to be for "westerners" to blend in in Benghazi these days?), it would be smart for the US to take measured steps, and not go kicking doors in.

As i said, the US has many friends there. I have no doubt that there is more going on behind the scenes.

This talking point about how the White House "mishandled the reports" is typical of how television is dumbing down the nation.
