Not to appease the natives, but because every damned vending machine was Coke.

      (before I got something stronger ;) )

I haven't been a usual consumer of the regular stuff since I was 10 or so. But when I was, it was no contest, Coke.

Ok, so I read the polls.

Up until 2007 I was hooked on Diet Coke, but I finally managed to kick the habit. It was so bad that there were half empty cans sitting all around the office and it would take me an hour to dispose of them--I did recycle--because I had to empty each one before I could go to the next one.

It was pretty bad. I'd pour them into the toilet and watch  the moldy crap go into the bowl. Every once in a while I'd think: my god what if I picked up an old can an started drinking that stuff.

Fortunately, those days are over now.

Let's harmonize with the locals, at least where beverages are concerned. Why not drink Coke in Atlanta, beer in Belgium, scotch in Scotland, etc.

At college in 1960,omg such a long time ago,my chemistry prof did a demonstration for us. He got some concentrated Coca Cola syrup from the soda fountain in  town. He put the syrup in a beaker and suspended from a tripod a bone-in steak into the syrup. When we arrived in class next morning, the steak AND THE BONE had disappeared, dissolved completely by the acid.I was cured for life. Ginger ale, club soda and occac. tonic water  for me.

young'un... but I'd seen the meat thing in a science fair.

I was too dumb to be scared.  I probably just figured "cool, if I ever swallow a nail I can dissolve it before it comes out the hard way!"
