    silliness: the wine and cheese and t-shirt parties, the locals lamenting the noisy tourists ("flatlanders"), the politicians and their photo-ops, the uniquely L.A. madness.

    When my family followed my mother's people out to Los Angeles in the late 1940's (my mother's brothers all got jobs in the studios painting movie sets),  we immediately adopted
    this palm-tree lined, goofy, sprawling, unique place.

    L.A. was called, "200 Suburbs in Search of a City."
    L.A. has its own odd mythology, and I slurp it all up very nostalgically.
