View Diary: WATCH: Why the Debates Are "All We've Got Left" (102 comments)

  •  I watched the whole interview when it aired (12+ / 0-)

and was not terribly impressed by Ms. Jemeson's rather Church Lady-esque righteous indignation, pox on both your houses affect. Moreover her analysis of Romney's statement of non-involvement in Bain outsourcing as true because it was the corporate entity rather than Mitt himself that made those decisions was an example of moralistic tunnel vision at best and is disingenuous, at least. It seemed to me her thesis can be boiled down to the tired old 'both sides do it' false equivalence nostrum.

I trust that even if the debates were cancelled we would still have something of equal or greater significance 'left', such as our own conclusions drawn from our own observation, judgement and experiences. The 2%-4% remaining undecided voters would have to make up their own minds based on the readily available and ample record, sans the (not) Debate TV input, which might prove to be quite a salutary exercise.

    •  Deficit hawkishness and austerity (9+ / 0-)

Was what I was hearing from this woman.  It all falls into the conventional beltway bubble wisdom that deficits are the currently the most pressing problem we face as a nation.  It is all a bunch of bull pucky doled out by people who have absolutely zero idea of how disastrous austerity would be at this time for the majority of the American population.

      •  Exactly, I left out a mention (3+ / 0-)

of Keynesian alternatives above for the sake of brevity but that struck me as well and I was somewhat surprised that Moyers did not at least give it a nod. Jameson looked like she was running for an upcoming Supreme Court vacancy, AND, her tone reminded me of Ann Romney's in a "if people knew what was good for them they would just think of things my way", way.

I can see the point of the headline if taken in a calendrical way, meaning that the debates are Mitt's last hurrah in the (more or less) fully concentrated national attention before the election, but that really goes without saying, what with the way time is all linear, mostly.
