    From the Dallas News

    SADLER: Do you even own a gun, Ted?

    CRUZ: I do.

    SADLER: Do you hunt? You brought the Second Amendment stuff up. I’m just curious.

    CRUZ: Is it true or false that as a state legislator that you voted against the concealed carry law in the state of Texas?

    SADLER: I support the Second Amendment.

    CRUZ: Is it true or false? I can engage in the same cross-examination you did.

    SADLER: I voted against the concealed weapons law because I didn’t want my 95-year-old step-grandmother, who carries a pistol, to be a felon.

    CRUZ: And that’s a sharp difference between you and me.

    SADLER: The fact is I’m a big Second Amendment supporter. I have four boys who have all hunted. I hunt. I’ve defended the Second Amendment.

    Cruz wants Sadler's 95 yo Grandmother arrested as a felon?  Politics are a little different down here.

      How precisely did voting against a concealed weapons law help keep his step-grandmother out of jail for carrying one?

        his 95 year old step grandmother may not be completely in control of her faculties and yet packs a pistol. Under the terms of the law that disqualifies a person.

        I just looked up the detail on the law and it says that one of the conditions under which one cannot carry a concealed weapon is if the person

        (7) is not incapable of exercising sound judgment with respect to the proper use and storage of a handgun;

        So he may have been joking - that he voted against it because the woman would be disqualified under the law.
        otherwise I don't understand what he meant, either.
        I'm not really familiar with the law.
        But apparently he did not want concealed handguns and was trying to make a point with his joke(?)
