  •  Mendacity! (9+ / 0-)

Lately I've been thinking about the "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" version with Burl Ives, Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman.

Burl Ives' lines, as  Big Daddy, on the subject of mendacity, in a dialogue about the subject with Paul Newman's brick, really speak to the dynamic in this election.

I've also been looking back at Charles Dickens.  Movies made from his novels, although not so much the Disneyfied ones, show us the struggle with the 1% that we may be headed back to if people like Romney and Ryan get elected.

Dickens was a sharp observer, as a newspaper reporter,  and was constructing a social critique.  It would be ironic if we decided, as a culture, a century and a half later, that what he was critiquing should instead be an ideal.

hope that the idiots who have no constructive and creative solutions but only look to tear down will not win the day.
