but I still think we should be paying attention - that's all.

I hate hate. I love the look in peoples eyes when they realize, for the first time, that they have power.

    •  And yet you are spreading CT (4+ / 0-)

And one of the most unfounded ones ever. That's not being informed, that's looking for a CT to explain events as Step Number One. Stop it.

      •  I hear what you're saying. (2+ / 0-)

I really am trying to admit and own my own issues with CT-thinking regarding this.  But Mitt's choice of Perle and Wolfowitz as his foreign policy advisors and future cabinet members, potentially, will always make me nervous when stuff like this comes up.  Their conspiracies in the past (i.e. Saddam WMD claims, etc) are not theory, but documented fact. So, I'm not working with no information on this.

However, If you or anyone else wants to go HR the parent link, I won't complain.

        •  Well, you present the nicest example ever (0+ / 0-)

It is easy to draw these straight lines. But life is usually more a matter of FUBARs clustering together than pre-planned self-induced crises. Yes, it is important who wins the Oval Office, even for non-Americans and other heads of state. But as important as that may be, it is of secondary importance to one's own personal, familial, and national priorities. It is rare, not common, for people to conspire against their first priorities in support of a secondary concern.

So my point is, why spend time investigating a low-priority scenario when more plausible avenues are available?

Is it likely Assad or a rebel faction would think firing a single mortar bomb would change teh ut come of the POTUS race?

Is it likely some Turkish leader(s) would be eager to get more deeply involved in the Syrian mess, on the slight change that might derail what looks like an easy win for President Obama?

I'm was not close to an HR in this case so don't worry about that. But do you see what I mean? This sort of CT requires perfect hindsight to be had long before the plot was ever launched. On the other hand it is explained very easily by suggesting one mortar team got disoriented and fired a shot over the border.

Go with the odds until more is learned.
