Let's face it, we're not the target audience for this debate. And whether the target audience pays attention to the fact-checkers... well... (Hey, that'd involve paying attention to reality)

No, I don't think the debate is going to significantly change the outcome of the election. Just pointing out that, in the context of who Romney is and his campaign so far, this is the best tack he could possibly have taken -- and, assuming you're willing to completely chuck morals and ethics, it's fairly brilliant. Romney actually IS prepared for this debate in a way Obama is not. Obama was prepared to debate the stances Romney was holding yesterday. Romney's no longer holding those positions (well, at least for tonight and in public). It WILL NOT win him this election. But it's making this a far more effective debate for him than I would have ever ever wagered he'd have.

      Gotta remember the venue here.

Reminds me of one of the greatest, and most honest,  statements I've ever heard from a politician.

I was watching the 1984 Democratic convention, and suddenly there was some hubbub in the Louisiana delegation.  The Mondale people had apparently pulled some maneuver that allowed them to outflank the Hart and Jackson Louisiana delegates, who combined outnumbered them, but the Mondale people made it impossible for them to combine their votes.  A bunch of Hart delegates were protesting about the lack of "morality" involved, when suddenly a camera-grabbing figure appeared on the scene.

It was Governor Edwin Edwards, who then posed that great line:  "What's all this talk about morality?  This is a political convention!"  It was perfect.

Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?

Wow, I'm sorry I missed that. Momentary honesty! And yes, I was talking strategies, not final outcomes. Luckily, the majority of Americans ARE still operating in reality. But the fact that so many AREN'T, the fact that Romney could stand up there and lie repeatedly and egregiously, SHOULD be cause for "hand-wringing", in my book.
