    I see that a lot of the commenters aren't getting past the idea that there is a funding problem and a need to eventually balance budgets. They don't understand:

    1) That government deficits are necessary for a healthy economy when you're importing more than you export. So here's a pretty short one on that.

    And 2) That there are no solvency limits on Government deficit spending, covered here and here.

    If they did, then they'd be not only very pissed off that they had to pay FICA forward since 1983 to build up the present surplus and they'd also want their money back in the form of doubling SS benefit payments going forward.

    We need to stop fighting from back on our heels and start getting aggressive about solving American problems. All we need to do that is to realize that Government money is no object.

      An as the UKMC slide points out we are actually living below our means.

      Also to those that mock your coin seignorage idea(OMG a coin!), "coining" money is actually the term that is in the Constitution.
