  •  that was my take, Obama seemed shocked (16+ / 0-)

that Romney was lying about almost every one if his positions.  I would have been thrown off if I had prepared for a debate with Romney but when I got there the other Romney was there.  It was like Romney was a schitzophrenic, deranged, aggressive, lying, bully that showed up. It was so freaking weird.
I wonder if he was thrown off by the altitude, Romney went early and was acclimated.

    •  The "other" Romney? (6+ / 0-)

As far as I've been able to tell, that's the Romney we've been seeing all along. And one of the main reasons he looked as comfortable as he did (aside from being acclimated to the altitude, which was an excellent point) was because he was lying, early and often. A sociopath is never more comfortable than when he's telling someone what they want to hear; it's when he has to tell the truth when he stammers and stops and laughs nervously. It's why Mittens should never play poker: That nervous chuckle is the biggest Tell I've ever seen.

so the act of flying to Denver becomes an acclimatization.
Besides, he president is pretty fit, and Denver is at 5k ft, not 10k. Yes, there is a bit less oxygen, but that should've hit Mitt the Motormouth harder, because he was speed talking and interrupting all the time.
I think Laurence O'Donnell had a good take; Obama went into this with the goal of staying presidential (prevent defense is kos' apt metaphor). Romney 'knocked over the chess pieces' and declared a win.
I don't think the next debate will go this way. Town hall style will be very hostile to the Monopoly Guy.

R-Money/R-Ayn, the ENRON Ticket, is not a campaign; it's a hostile takeover bid.

but Obama has been flying in and out of Colorado all summer.  I doubt that was an issue.  He seemed sick and/or exhausted.  He should have been prepared for the aggressive, rude, bully.  That's how Romney acted during the Republican debates.
