integrity in exchange for speed they were promised. Or they did that deliberately.

The thing is, the only people who can be polled late in the evening like this have previously self-selected to be put on a list to be called. Polling companies do not randomly call landlines or cells at that time of the night. It wouldn't be pretty, waking up drunks or working people who have to get up early.

These are no doubt all people who have previously taken political polls for the polling company, so they have all their data on record. Depending on the previous focus of the polls they have taken, the sample itself may have been inherently so skewed that they couldn't cover other demographics.

If the majority of the sample is based on a poll for a client who wanted information on the opinions of white conservative voters ages 40 and up, the sample wouldn't include any others.  The first questions on the poll would be to weed out non-desired respondents, because the client isn't going to pay for their opinions.

It is also possible that the polling company was in contact with their sample by email to ask them to view the debates, to improve the chances that they could find enough who had seen it.
