  •  So, based on that we have (0+ / 0-)

About 8 % of the sample was non-white. vs the US population which is maybe 35%-40% non-white???
(depending on how "white" is measured, IE there is the whole white/hispanic thing).

I would love, love, love it if you would do a diary on this, and also do the same thing with the other groups reported.

(IE we could figure out the age and region totals from what is reported, IE how many non- south, how many people younger than 50)

Seriously, what do you think this is accomplishing? That a more perfect sample would magically find that Obama won the night?

I swear, this is exactly the kind of craziness I've been mocking from the conservative unskewers.

Look I am just interested in knowing who it was who watched the debates, or who this survey by CNN suggested watched the debates.

I am also interested in knowing how to dissect a poll this way.

I do believe that It's possible that the actual population of debate watchers were largely white and older than the general population, and more likely to live in the South.

In general, I personally would like to know more about how to look at a poll critically, and understand what it is saying, and with what confidence.

Not particularly to sway anyone one way or another. Just cause I'm interested.

      •  BINGO! (0+ / 0-)

What are we trying to accomplish with this? Polls about the debate are meaningless when compared to polls about THE ELECTION.

Here is an interesting thing not in the cross-tabs: Who didn't watch the debate versus who did?

      •  If I were to say "I don't actually believe that (0+ / 0-)

CNN did anything wrong; I'm just playing the refs and hoping to make a human sacrifice of Candy Crowley to prove our power," you would probably respect and appreciate it.

Here, I'm spitting at the refs because they seem to have done a bad job, claimin that A represents B when it doesn't.  You don't really need that explained to you, do you?

        •  Huh? (0+ / 0-)

Yeah, I'm not into human sacrifices.

Nor am I into "working the refs" on polling. Winners don't do that sort of thing.

The poll didn't get the toplines wrong. Who gives a shit if Romney won by a 30-point margin instead of a 40-point one? Only people who think "discrediting" this poll accomplishes anything.

          •  This is not about Romney and Obama (0+ / 0-)

This is about CNN and its practices and what it passes off as a representative national sample -- not just in a debate, but in any event.  The "Punish Candy Crowley" reference should have been a hint to you.
