    I agree that in trials the cross-examination or follow-up is where the most damage is usually done. So I think the damage can be mitigated with a strong follow-up. But I'm hoping that wasn't the initial strategy because it was unnecessary. Lawyers have to rely on cross-examination because they don't get to participate in the direct examination. The President had an opportunity to participate and he didn't. Or not in a helpful way.

      that can be put into and countered in snap ads.

      About 100% of what Romney said on air to America last night can be sliced, diced and served up in a big, fat 'lie pie'. Every last thing out of his mouth last night can now be put in an ad while it's fresh in people's minds.

      The Obama team could have decided there's more to be gained from ads then from one debate.
