This is what I meant by painting it as an example of the GOP cutting the stuff out of Government that we actually WANT to pay for.

Most Americans, particularly parents, like PBS.  Always have.  That is not the "wasteful spending" we're talking about when we all agree we need to reign things in.

Cutting PBS will save each taxpayer a few cents per year or something (I forget the actual figure).  This is a stupid thing to cut.  I will gladly pay a few cents to have a Public Broadcasting System, as would most folks.

Mitt is getting this one wrong.  My point was that this does not invalidate the message he is trying to convey about bring common sense about what we can afford to all our spending.

That approach makes sense to people.  The details like "I think we should spend TRILLIONS to bomb more brown people but save a few dollars by offing Big Bird and nixing foreign aid" is where this is demonstrated as being dumb.

i know a lot of conservatives who've spent years darkly muttering about PBS and yeah, Mitt played to them last night to perfection.  he was Reagan incarnate.   but, the image of Big Bird neatly counters the argument to defund PBS and leaves absolutely no room for more dark mutterings.   that's where i think (and know from experience) that Big Bird has traction.

might be more along the lines of what you're saying, Wisper.   certainly another line to work.
