position. The President did not agree with Romney on social security. The president mentioned tweaks to the system,
but he pointed out that the tweaks if he had to
make them, would be to make the program better for beneficiaries, as the he had done for Medicare.

Many will admit that his tweaking of Medicare helped not hurt the program. Despite the criticism he had gotten by Democrats before he strengthened the program.

Preventive services are now covered than were NOT covered at all, such as an annual gyn exam. And preventive services that were covered are now covered with ZERO copay.

There are many more tweaks--and cuts--that will help strengthen Medicare, without cutting benefits to Medicare recipients at all. For example, durable goods providers (wheelchairs, scooters, CPAP supplies, etc.) pay millions to lobbyists to make sure Congress keeps their reimbursements heavily padded and ridiculously rigged. (Supplies are rented rather than bought, for example; Medicare pays big bucks for unnecessary service contracts on these rented supplies.) Billions could be saved here...aka CUT.

Define the tweaks.  One of the tweaks is a tens of thousands in benefit cuts through COLA changes.  Another is raising the retirement age.  Spell it out or clearly state you will veto any changes in benefits.

on any of these issues. It's just talk.

        •  True (0+ / 0-)

I have no idea so I better look for candidates who are willing to tell me where they stand.  I am voting on this issue and I am not going to guess.  He has a month to clear this up.

          •  Or what? You're voting for Gary Johnson? (0+ / 0-)

You're staying home to 'punish' Barack for not giving you every answer to every question when you want it, how you want it?

Does he also have a month to mow your lawn and wash your car?

            •  As I have been repeating for months (0+ / 0-)

I need to know his position on Social Security and Medicare benefit cuts.  If you would like me to shut up get him to answer a simple question.  I am not voting for mystery tweaks at the age of 61.  If he intends to agree to changes in retirement age or COLAS I absolutely will not vote for him.  If he does not be can say so.  Why is that difficult?

              •  Medicare benefits have been INCREASED!!!!!!! (0+ / 0-)

Benefits have been improved, right now, last year and this year, under President Barack Hussein Motherfucking Obama. What part of that is hard to understand? More preventive services covered. The doughnut hole in the Part D Rx drug benefit is gradually getting filled. THIS INFO IS WIDELY AND EASILY AVAILABLE. You can look it all up on this thingie called 'The Internet.' I happen to know it all personally because I have been living on these programs all my adult life.

The COLA changes every year, based on...the changing COLA! Jeebus...if you're too lazy to educate yourself, I'm not gonna bother. If you're too naive to realize that substantive changes to SS & Medicare are not politically tenable, I can't help you. You're hopelessly ignorant if you want a handwritten mash note from Prez O personally guaranteeing everything you want, how you want it, before you get your lazy ass to the polls.

The GOP has opposed SS & Medicare from their inception. Ya think RomneyRyan will personally guarantee your checks?

      •  One tweak: Raise or eliminate the payroll tax cap. (1+ / 0-)

Another: means test or further tax benefits for upper income recipients. The retirement age for collecting 100% of your SS benefits has been going up a few months at a time for many years now. Or didn't you already know that?

I know whereof I speak. I'm a disabled SS/Medicare recipient of many, many years, from a shockingly young age. I know the powerful lobby I have in my senior friends at AARP et. al., who know that 'little things' like COLA make a life or death (literally) difference to those of us on SS.

I know what is and isn't politically doable to SS and Medicare. Therefore, I don't waste time on SS/Medicare hysteria. I focus on reality.

        YMMV.

        •  The COLA change is an enormous cut over time (0+ / 0-)

Which will eventually impact the oldest old most vulnerable of all.  This is why I am so passionately opposed to it.  It is a sneaky poison designed so the voter will swallow it.

          •  The disabled are the most vulnerable SS/Medicare (0+ / 0-)

recipients. It's not even close. But who gives a flying fuck about us? We don't have a big, well-funded lobby working on our behalf. We don't have powerful political interests holding Congress' feet to the fire. We don't have media even mentioning the millions of disabled in passing when they talk about SS & Medicare. Most of them--and hence, most of the American public--don't have a fucking clue that millions of disabled Americans live on nothing else but SS & Medicare.

But whiny old folks are so much more newsworthy.
