  •  We have to face a few realities (5+ / 0-)

1- Romney's performance will energize Republicans, including tea partiers, religious conservatives and maybe even Ron Paul voters.   That was the big missed opportunity.  There was a lot of ambivalence among these voters for Romney, but now they know he might be able to beat Obama because he did so in the debate.  That means higher turnout on their side in tight states.

2 - Obama has gotten off to a quick-start in the post-debate framing game.  I think it is and will be effective.  That should stem the tide in terms of poll movements towards Romney.

3 - Romney has shot his load in this debate. The expectations game is now level.  If Obama is willing to be more aggressive, he can get a big win over Romney in the town hall debate and restore the situation to status quo ante.  It will not be easy. Romney made several unrebutted criticisms of the state of the economy which could prove effective for him even if Obama nails him on his lies.

We have a lot of work to do to win this thing.

    •  I agree with some but (0+ / 0-)

Mitt Romney has gotten my respect; he's a smarter, savvier guy than I gave him credit for: He looked the President in the eye all night.  I liked that.

I don't know if he shot his load at all- which means the President has to go on the offense.

From Neocon to sane- thanks to Obama- and Kos.
