Good thing they didn't know that most premature births are singles (like my son) and for over half of them, the cause is never known (like my son). He's our half-a-million-dollar baby, & worth every penny.

shows how twisted our healthcare system is. So much money is wasted on procedures that don't actually help the patient, but hey, they're billable, so the hospital makes some money. The elderly, especially if they have good coverage, are subjected to this nonstop (I've seen it firsthand -I'm not a doctor but in an allied medical profession and interned for a semester at a long-term acute care facility). I have no problem whatsoever with expensive procedures that give babies and children a chance at life. (And in my current job, I work with many of these miracle babies whose situation was quite precarious, but who are now happy, loving, functional little people.) But other parents in your situation with no insurance? Their kids might not have gotten a chance, which is truly sick.

Mitt's healthcare market "solutions" would work out fine for babies of wealthy parents, everyone else be damned. How messed up is that? I think Mitt needs to spend some time visiting NICUs and explaining to non- wealthy parents face-to-face why their babies should just die. If I sound like I have nothing but contempt for him, it's because it's true.
