    it's very easy to make the case, and probably still is the case, that obama was and is willing to enact his "grand bargain" which will entail cutbacks to critical safety nets that are already too meager.  moreover, those cuts are unnecessary as there are alternatives to the cuts.  take a look at the budget put forth by the progressive caucus.

    it may well be dumb luck on the part of the president that the republicans refused the deal he made with boehner.  had that deal gone through, the president would have taken a huge hit with the elderly and progressives.  without a doubt, the deal offered by obama and agreed to by boehner (although, ultimately he couldn't deliver the votes) was absolutely awful.  so, yeah, obama got lucky.

    calling someone a racist for pointing out these widely acknowledged and accepted facts is ludicrous and completely undercuts your credibility.
