  •  So I take it you don't support Obama? (5+ / 0-)

In fact these lines confirm it:

Sadly, Solnit and other supporters of the Obama imperial status-quo are the very product of the American corporate culture of violence, the subject of Chris Hedges's Death of the Liberal Class and Empire of Illusion and of many enlightening commentaries by Henry Giroux.
This is my problem with leftists who don't support Obama in the elections. They do not put up a viable, alternative option.

In an ideal world I would love for liberals to rise up and form a genuine and completely liberal party.

However in a realistic world, we only have two options that can garner the White House, and most of the Senate and the House. The two options are either the GOP or the Dems, either Romney or Obama.

One candidate will never enact any liberal policies or rarely enact such policies.

Another candidate will enact some, liberal policies.

I rather have some liberal policies rather than none or very little.

This does not mean I support Obama 100%, I just realize he is the best we have from a realist perspective.

      •  Do you want him to be re-elected as POTUS? (0+ / 0-)

I don't support his foreign policy either, but I want a Democratic Administration in power rather than the GOP.

Are you saying that we should just shut up and follow the leader?

who will you replace Obama with that can win the election?

That does not mean shutting up to follow the leader. By all means be critical of Obama, dissent. Create or join a mass movement, a grass-roots movement that pushes him further to the left.

But at the end of the day, Jill Stein, or Rocky Anderson, or Gary Johnson, or fill in the blank, will not be President. Either Romney or Obama will be.

alternative, obama is safer for this country, and the rest of the world, than romney would be. last time your ilk decided the democratic candidate didn't meet their exacting standards of progressive perfection, they voted for ralph nader. we ended up with two wars, 1,000's of dead and wounded, deficits out the wazoo and economic destruction. i dare say a war with iran will result in more deaths than all the drone attacks combined. want that on your conscience?

no democracy on the face of the planet has ever had a "perfect" candidate, it doesn't exist. we deal in the art of compromise, or at least us adults do.

certainly, you can vote, or not, for who you want, but don't delude yourself into thinking not voting for obama is sending some kind of "message", to anyone, it won't be. all it will prove is that you're not very bright.

If we wait for the ideal world, nothing will ever get done. Obama needs to be challenged on his most egregious policies. Otherwise his natural tendency keeps him drifting to the right. Last night's debate sounded like a right wing Republican debating a moderate Republican.
