I'm quite thankful that Vermilion County, Illinois, which is where I live, is more interested in building a wind farm along the border with neighboring Champaign County, Illinois than getting involved in the clean coal debate that has done little more than pit communities in Central and Southern Illinois against each other.

I'm just North of you. We love seeing the Benton County, IND Wind farm and the Paxton towers from our yard. The Collison wind farm is growing and holds a lot of promise for all of us.

The amount of wind farms going up in IL and IN amaze me. To see the development in Republican Indiana is mind blowing.

As for clean coal, it is non-existent. you cannot clean it up. You can put scrubbers on exhaust stacks. As for a synthetic gas, take a look at the old coal gasification processes from the 19th and early 20th centuries. There is a reason they're out of business.

While not all republicans are bigots, all bigots are republicans.

I read about a wind farm not far from Champaign that had a group strongly opposed to it and they even protested at a public meeting or two. I got the impression that most people are for it though.
After some googling I found out that the spokeswoman for that group and her husband manage an exclusive private duck hunting club near the proposed site. So, she has a financial interest in nothing getting built that might reduce the number of large fowl in the area.
