    •  A bunch of bullshit. (4+ / 0-)

It means that you have the right to deny doing your job and providing health care if you claim it violates your conscience.

For example: Let's say you're a doctor in an ER, and a woman comes in and she's been raped and wants emergency contraception to ensure she doesn't end up pregnant with her rapist's baby. Well, if you claim that providing emergency contraception violates your religious beliefs, you're allowed to refuse. You can tell the woman, "Too bad, so sad," because your "conscience" is protected.

      Bullshit, right?

Tired of the War on Women? It's payback time. And payback's a bitch.

      •  Conscience protection means several things (0+ / 0-)

Some people claim it as a right not to do their job providing healthcare. Others try to claim it as justification for not serving or renting to, say LGBT people. The big noise has been from Catholic institutions that do not meet the standard for religious exemptions; they want to dictate to their non-Catholic employees.

Others mean it in First Amendment terms....that the government or your employer has no right to tell you what to do with your mind, your body, etc.

decides it's against his/her "conscience" to treat a critically injured black or Latino person? Or a pharmacist says it's against his/her "conscience" to dispense drugs that fight HIV? This is a very slippery slope they're putting the country on.

for the conscience of  a pharmacist who objects to laws that say you have to do your goddamn job and fill that prescription for evil evil lady pills.

He gets to say "no I won't and my guardian angel conscience protector will back me up on this!"

Religion is like sodomy: both can be harmless when practiced between consenting adults but neither should be imposed upon children.
