  •  They are the same people who think that (11+ / 0-)

the "Brethren" in "whatever you do for the elast of my brethren" ONLY applies to people like them, members of their church and people who think just like them.  Mitt doesn't even grasp that not everyone belongs to a church, or, if he does, that the ones who don't, don't deserve help because we're heathens.

Theer sort of removal from reality is almost a mental disability.

Teddy Kennedy got though he came from money. I think that because the Kennedys were Irish Catholics in a city in which the True Upper Classes were WASPs, he understood that money isn't everything. Years ago in 1973, I attended a briefing he gave when he was trying to get a health care bill passed the first time. I was there because my job required it. But he was so filled with fire and caring that I got it.

I wonder if you are speaking of the YouTube video that impresses me so much where he is angry and can't understand why the others can't see the need for health care.

As far as the church people issue goes, I know people who never go into an official church, but live their lives in a more "Christian" or spiritual way than the seat warmers that go every week.  I know a Buddhist who is more giving and empathetic than a Baptist I know that says the Buddhist will go to hell because of her religion.

      •  No. It was just a press briefing in a small room. (5+ / 0-)

Maybe 20 of us there.  I was sent by my boss (my very first real job as a research asst. for a state office in D.C.) . I has seen Teddy on TV, but was blown away by his good looks, charisma, energy and sheer caring that day.  It wasn't anything he said. It was his whole attitude which said  he knew he was damned lucky (despite losing two brothers to assassins) and that he had a God-given duty to care others ( say what you want about the Vatican, but I suspect he learned that concern and humility from the nuns, same as I did).

    •  I loved what our pastor said: (0+ / 0-)
It shouldn't be "Jesus loves me, this I know." It should be "Jesus loves other people, this I know."
