this election.  It is bigger than Social Security, bigger than Medicare, and bigger than job creation.  Don't get me wrong; I care about those programs.  But I would gladly give them all up if it meant being able to turn on Sesame Street everyday.  No contest.

but this is a huge symbolic victory.  big bird is rightly beloved.

romney handed obama a talking serious talking point filled with emotion.

      my rebuttal:

Romney thinks cutting .001% of the Federal Budget n the form of subsidies to PBS somehow makes a point about the deficit.  But his position points out the deficits in his logic. Federal contribution to PBS ls ess than a quarter of its budget.  For our tiny contribution, we get Big Bird on Sesame Street, all the good PBS does for millions of our children and many other excellent programs. Killing Big Bird will not do what Romney suggests it will.  The only way to balance the budget and pay for the tax cuts Romney advocates is to make deep cuts in essential services and eliminate things like the mortgage deduction.  What we will sacrifice in the process of making these huge cuts just doesn't make sense in the short or long term.  We will be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

    •  BB is just a microcosm (0+ / 0-)

if BB goes, the push to kill off entitlements of all kinds would soon follow

except of course, for the entitlements that benefit the wealthy like tax shelters and exemptions and subsidized outsourcing.  oh, and we'd still have those awesome no bid billion dollar contracts given to big money donors.  It's only cool to be on the dole if you are profiting billions from the govt instead of getting a subsidized meal.

But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have laid my dreams under your feet; tread softly, because you tread on my dreams. – Yeats

    •  Not so sure (0+ / 0-)

I think most of the people who support PBS are Obama voters anyway.
