      I need protein and fruits/veggies to keep my mental state from being eroded by vitamin deficiencies.

      I'm not the only one.

      Since the rice from around the Mississippi River basin has too much arsenic, especially the better for you brown rice. Doesn't matter if it's organic or not.

      I was appalled to find that out. I love rice.

      Buy rice from the west coast if you can until they figure out how to get the arsenic from growing cotton out of the soil.

      Women create the entire labor force.

      People with past generations in their family, or with other risk factors, need to eat recommended amounts of protiens, carbs, fruits and veggies. Potato is a veggie, a filling veggie, a high carbohydate veggie.

      As a child, white bread was always on the table, second helpings were rare, if any served to the man of the house, then the boys.

      Many people are allergic to various foods, or gluten, or try to stay away from foods containing "high fructose corn syrup".

      The foods in the supermarket with no sugar cost more. The foods with less salt cost more. Sometimes they are not available.

      Disabled people may have problems cooking. it may be possible to make stews, soups, and freeze. it is always necessary to have frozen meals in the freezer. Or canned food that can be eaten right out of the can.

      My personal computer is limited, can't post without tagging on. Community computer better. Pardon tagging to comments, spelling, please.

        squash and bean soups. Put them in zippies and freeze them. Crock pot keeps my little apartment warm and humid as the winds of fall dry everything out.

          Here is a recipe for stew I make variations of:

          onions, garlic, green peppers, carrot shavings-may be prepared in advance and frozen, saute in olive oil for a few minutes.

          Onions are fairly cheap, I always have some in the house. A large onion, top cut off, a cross cut, olive oil, nuked for 3 or 4 minutes, is a good snack.

          **I have grown scallions(green onions) by chopping of the white, and growing it in water. You can get three "cycles" out of a bunch. Next batch, I'm going to grow in dirt, and keep chopping the top off. They can be added to just about anything.

          Then put in whatever meat. About 3/4 pound of chicken leg, pork, skinless. Push the veggies to one side.

          Rinse a can of beans. Goya products are good. Then a 14oz can or two of diced tomatoes, then 26oz of spaghetti sauce.

          Bay leaves, cumin, tumeric, pepper, garlic power, oregano, whatever spices you like.

          Boil, then simmer, to throughly cook the meat to falling apart stage, when you fish it out, take meat off bones.

          **I am growing basil on the window sill, am starting to to root cuttings in water, put a few in another pot, grow more plants.

          Eat a couple of meals, freeze the rest. LABEL!

          Dried yellow and green pea soups are good. Add other veggies, ask the buchter for bones. Or try a turkey leg, smoked or regular.
