  •  I am a Southern cook as well (4+ / 0-)

My family on both sides are Appalachian, culturally.  I don't often have much bacon grease, but I do have a container of lard handy.  I use the same technique you do to make the cornbread.

Do I remember correctly that you live just across the border from southeastern Oklahoma in Arkansas?  As I have gotten older I have embraced my culinary heritage.  It sounds like you have as well.

Now I live in the Bluegrass area of Kentucky.  Be sure and catch my weekly posts about growing up in Hackett, Arkansas every Wednesday evening at 9:00 Eastern.  It is called My Little Town.

      Warmest regards,

      Doc

Ashley is visiting relatives in McKee this evening (in Jackson County, whilst Jackson is in Breathitt County, but still it is a small world.  Yes, you are from the really hilly country of my adopted state.

It is interesting, but only within the last year have I referred to the house in which I reside "home".  Before I became separated from my family, it was always just "the house".  Now it is home, and I have sort of a new, adopted family.

          Warmest regards,

          Doc
