    It will take a long time for the messaging of The New Jim Crow and opinion's like Dan's to sink it, and it will only happen if people keep pushing it.

    No one wants to be reminded of problems "on the other side of the tracks."

      getting back to my analogy of feminism in this venue, time was, nobody really wanted to be reminded of life on the other side of "gender tracks," either. We had to keep on pushing that relentlessly, and in time, the unwritten community standards for honest discussions of gender-related issues have become a tad less defensive, squeamish, and hysterical. Same thing has to happen with discussions about the police brutality. And I think it just might. I think we may stand a chance this time around. Just look at how the demographics of society are changing, and look at the rise of the internet. Those are preconditions to some big changes.
