  •  PPP polls are automatic, meaning no cell phones (4+ / 0-)

Which leads me to ask why in Hell do we pay any attention at all to PPP's polls? And why are they consistently described as a Dem-friendly pollster in light of that? A poll which automatically excludes large numbers of minority and young people simply and only because they don't use land lines would appear to be useless, whether conducted by a GOP-leaning pollster, or a supposedly Dem-leaning one.

I don't get it, but if there's something obvious I'm not understanding, I'd appreciate the info.

    •  It's simple if you really think about it (0+ / 0-)

All polls weight by demographics anyway. No one is "excluded". Just because automated calling uses a technology which doesn't reach cell phone users does not invalidate those results.

    •  Even the cell phone polls aren't accurate (0+ / 0-)

It is basically not possible to call prepaid cell phone users for a poll. They tend to be poor, minority, and Democratic. Maybe you could weight the poll based on the landline responses you get, but there are generation gaps between landline users and prepaid users. In the west, I generally think Latinos and African Americans are under sampled in most polls. I also think this explains the Reid and Michael Bennett results from 2010--both were behind on the polls but won because the unpollable people actually showed up at the polls.
