  •  oracles, shamans, and polls, oh my! (0+ / 0-)

What I find intriguing is the amount of effort humans spend trying to predict the future.  This has been a consistent element of human existence all the way back to shamans and oracles.

It would be interesting to set up a national dream registry and use it as a database for "polling," based on what comes up in peoples' dreams.  It would be most interesting to compare the predictive value of dreams, to the predictive value of polls.

Given that dreams reflect the consolidation of memory and the processing of information about each person's life and environment and interactions with others, there's a decent chance that they would point to trends that might not be picked up by polls:  much as advertisers make use of various means to get insight into the subconscious reactions of consumers, in order to hone their narratives to match more closely to the factors that really influence buying behaviors.

"Minus two votes for the Republican" equals "plus one vote for the Democrat." Arithmetic doesn't care about their feelings either!
