It's an even greater shame that many Americans do not know Elba as Stringer Bell from "The Wire." Stringer had a lot in common with Obama: He was intelligent, reserved, and able to understand that the world was not reducible to simplistic dualisms. (Also, one of his tragic mistakes was naively assuming that politicians played by the same set of rules as he did.)

I never saw Stringer punch a wall, and I can only remember three scenes in which he visibly lost his temper: when he learned that Senator Davis had accepted his bribe and given him nothing in return; when he roared at his assassins, "Get on with it, motherfuckers!" and when he became frustrated (rather charmingly) by his soldiers' literal-mindedness:

    Stringer: What you doing?
Shamrock: Robert's Rules [of Order] says we got to have minutes of the meeting. These the minutes.
Stringer: N***, is you taking notes on a criminal fucking conspiracy?
If Obama were forced to emulate an Idris Elba character, I'd vote for Stringer over Luther (although it should probably go without saying that as far as livelihood is concerned, I would not want Obama to be the second-in-command to an illegal narcotics kingpin).
