  •  He's also outsourcing the costs of (0+ / 0-)

Medicare and Medicaid. The voucher program shifts increasing healthcare costs onto seniors, and block grants of Medicaid to the states shifts the costs of those programs onto states...which ultimately means taxpayers in those states.

Since so many seniors in long term nursing home care rely on Medicaid to cover the costs of that care, taxpayers in states with high populations of seniors (hello? Florida?) ought to be sitting up and paying close attention. Mitt Romney is trying to grab your wallets.

    •  sending it to the states (0+ / 0-)

Romney's line about sending programs to the states is really mind numbing.  Half the states are broke.  He'd be sending programs to the states to manage their demise.  States' usual inability to tax for the sake of essential services is one of the things that's been wrecking public education for decades.  In a lot of places people would vote to shut their own water off if it were put to them as a tax proposal.

      •  Ah, but then Thugs can kill the New Deal with remo (0+ / 0-)

rse saying 'I want to help, we just don't have the money'.

That's the goal now, as it has been all along.

      •  It's a lot harder for a local government (0+ / 0-)

to turn its back when bodies start piling up in the streets. They won't kick those elderly people out of the nursing home beds. Bad optics.

Bottom line, taxpayers will end up paying for it one way or another.
