I watched the entire youtube.  He (the President) certainly was more coherent at this gathering (wonder why he could not make similar points this time at the debate), but hardly stunning.  Maybe the problem is that he does not know how to get to a point, plods eternally on, and stumbles with his vocal pattern.  I notice (he did this to his discredit during the debate) his habit of referring to "experts".  This is not especially useful-- first of all it is not an argument (appeal to authority) and it displaces the responsibility to unnamed others (leaving him open to a Romney-type "you have your experts and I have mine).  I suspect this is in keeping with his urge to be "reasonable." His comments during the health care exchange were especially frustrating and replicate his habit of going off point and conceding points that are not even germane (tort reform?). Obviously these are not issues of intelligence, but more engrained verbal and thinking styles. Thanks, anyway, Crissie, for the link.

    •  I think he made the Republican caucus (0+ / 0-)

look like a collection of clowns - including Paul Ryan.  They never put themselves in this position again. Amazing how people can have different interpretations of the same effect.

Yes, it is amazing.  Character, personality traits I suppose.  I tend to think the cup is 1/3 full, even if it is 3/4 full.

        •  I used to be a pessimist but Barack Obama (0+ / 0-)

told us a long time ago to fight against cynicism and believe that we can win and that real change can only come from the bottom-up.
I've been an activist since I was a junior in high school and I'm 59.  I've worked on many causes and have won some and lost some.  But we can't give up.  The rightwing won't and neither can we.
