  •  Okay, to be fair, we don't know that. (4+ / 0-)

I'm sure Mitt loves his sons very much.  Parents almost universally love their children almost by default.

But I totally would prefer to be held by Obama x100 if I were a baby!!!!!

    •  But there's a difference (3+ / 0-)

between that "default" affection one feels for one's own offspring, and caring for one's babies.

Do you think Mitt was changing diarrhea diapers and crib sheets in the middle of the night?  Or walking the baby with an earache?  Did he do much, if anything, for his boys when they were inconvenient -- as children so often are?  Or, instead, was he insisting that Daddy eats first?

Its doing all the things with babies when one they are not convenient that turns one into a baby whisperer!

      •  My point is that we don't know. And to assume that (2+ / 0-)

he was a terrible or neglectful Dad when his boys were babies is just that—speculation.  You can do that if you want to, but it just doesn't strike me as useful.  Sticking to what we know of Romney is enough, trust—he's given us plenty to work with haha

    •  Well, (0+ / 0-)

I certainly agree that we don't know it empirically, although I don't exactly see how it differs in that from pretty much every other comment in this diary.

In any case, even I, unfair to Mitt as I may be, didn't say that Mitt doesn't love his children. I said he "had little to do with" his children as babies. Back in the Bronze Age, when I was a kid, it wasn't even that uncommon for dads to not have much hands-on contact with babies, who can be messy and fail to respond to voice commands, especially if the dads were Important Busy Executives.

As far as I can see, my speculation that Mitt has no experience handling babies is possibly the kindest interpretation one can place on his observed interaction with them. But I admit I have no direct knowledge of this, and honestly, I would cross the street to avoid getting any.
