than old age, disease or most predators. The abundance of deer here in Iowa especially calls for careful hunting, and some of that venison ends up in food pantries.

I still would not say that hunting is what makes us human.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary? . . . and respect the dignity of every human being.

We are more than just apex predators - we are humans. We have choices about how and who we are, what we eat, how we live.

We are overrun with deer here in eastern NC too. They are routinely killed on the roads (and their fawns, too), they spread Lyme disease, etc. I am not against hunting and I understand that the lives of wildlife are not kind...There is chronic wasting disease in the western mountains that will probably get 50% of the population or more. It's a terrible death.
