      I think it was banned because it was exclusively reserved for that one vestment.  But I may be wrong.

      There's also a view that it was improper to blend animal (wool) and vegetable (linen) fibers.  But that's just a suspicion, not the rule.

      There are however those who feel that polyester must not be kosher.  Just because, well, it's polyester. ;-)
