  •  My daughter fit the description (8+ / 0-)

"stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard".  Other than the gender, of course, and substitute drug use for glutton.  Rather than haul her out to the village gates, wherever they are, I stood by side her.  She is now a wonderful mother of 3, married for over 10 years, and living responsibly.
Luckily for me and my wonderful grandchildren, I guess I'm not a good Christian.

His approach was Hillel's:  Love God with heart, mind and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself.

I thought the whole Evangelical Christian take was that Jesus created a new Covenant and that the laws in Deuteronomy were no longer in effect.  There was argument in that community on whether or not God's Covenant with the Jews was still valid;  Christian opinion seems to be moving toward the Jewish Covenant being valid for Jews, as opposed to being smashed on Calvary.
