  •  When I was in Mexico living on what I considered (6+ / 0-)

    next to nothing, a woman came to my kitchen window and asked permission to bathe her children in the horse water trough. Of course, I said "Si."

    Then she pointed to a tiny can of evaporated milk in my window sill--we didn't have refrigeration.  Every morning I went to the market for that day's food and bought a tiny can of milk.  We used it in our coffee for breakfast. The remainder quickly turned sour and I used it to make sour-milk biscuits for lunch.

    The woman asked, "Son rico?"  (Are you rich?)
