    I would have a cheap phone and a cheap camera with me .
    Not a $1000 iphone .

    I can replace my phone for less than $10.
    The little old Nikon is $20-30 ish

      If I'd be going someplace I expected something; I too would want to take my camera too, it is faster, about the same size, gets better pictures, and holds a bunch more.

      But I'm trying to think beyond that. I'm not thinking the dedicated activist, but the guy who is in the "right place at the right time" to catch something that would otherwise go unreported, or then simply becomes hearsay, and much easier to discount.  The one that sticks out is something like this...Critical Mass Rider shoved by NYC cop. A cell phone video is far more likely.

      If we have heavy handed tactics used against protesters here, or abroad something like this will reduce the amount of video, recordings, and pictures that come out of these events. It becomes easier to shush the populace.

        the chance of the phone being shut down by the powers that be , is smaller . Tptb would need to foresee that something was going to happen and turn off peoples devices .
